The speed of the game is at a snails pace. Both these teams wouldn't be able to cope with today's high tempo game.
The commentator is coming out with some one line pearlers. 'Jolly, it's a good job he didn't latch onto that ball''![]()

Yes I've watched the game a few times over the years and the speed and standards are poor.
A lot of misplaced passes, up and unders, poor possession, miscontrols and that's from both teams.
I'm sure the boots they used and the weight of the ball didn't help though
It was football as we knew it at the time though.
I remember rushing back from holiday in Blackpool aged 8 to watch it.
Unfortunately the game on Channel 4 isn’t commentated on by Kenneth Wolstenholme who worked for the BBC.
I noticed today just how good of a game Alan Ball had. He was closing the Germans down quickly all over the pitch.
Another interesting stat. West Germany didn’t beat England in a game until 1968.
Following our 2-0 win against them a couple of weeks ago, our record against them is now won 14 drawn 4 & lost 15
The fifa official film of the 1966 World Cup called Goal ! is a much better account of events.
