I doubt coming back to training early though was having West Brom dear to his heart. If he’s committed to a season in the Championship he should say so otherwise being at training with the squad is not great for team morale! He can’t have his cake and eat it!
Is Button number 1 or isn’t he - not fair on him as he won’t know whether he’s coming or going!
10 million and would snap anyone’s hand off!! He’s going sooner rather than later due to his contract so would like Button to be given an opportunity now!
I feel that Johnstone has gone about things the correct way. He may want to leave us but he's come back to training with a smile on his face and just got on with it. If he goes, then good luck to him.
The point was - he should either say he’s committed to the forthcoming championship games or expect to be number 2 after Button.
Button has been great pre-season so don’t want him cast aside for Johnstone as he can’t have his cake and eat it! Only fair to Button and if Button continues to play well he should keep the number 1 shirt regardless!
If you are good enough and ambitious enough to be wanted by a PL club why wouldn’t you try and get a move in the transfer window. More money, better team mates, better stadiums, greater profile. You are only a player for so long why not make the most of it.
You are NOT a fan, you are an employee.
You may want a move and another club may want to buy you. However if the two sides cannot agree a fee, or you don’t like the terms that you are offered then you have to see out the contract that you are on. You have to stay where you are.
In my opinion Johnstone is professional enough and smart enough to know that he may NOT get a move and if that is the case then he needs to make the most of what he can get out of staying at West Brom. He is a far better goalkeeper than Button and if the club cannot sell him for whatever reason then of course they will make him the number one goalie ahead of Button, once it is agreed that he is here for the foreseeable.
I agree unless his focus is elsewhere! Button has been great so far so if he keeps playing well then he should remain in the team - that’s life! Yes Johnstone is a better shot stopper than Button but Button comes off his line more.
If Johnstone was that good there would be a queue for his signature. Where are they!
In terms of Pereira the outburst won’t have done him any favours - clubs don’t want it! In fact some Leeds fans have commented they don’t want their apple cart upsetting. As Val said - no player is bigger than the club and that includes Harry Kane who has also stopped kissing the Spurs badge as 200K plus a week is not enough! They wonder why many are turning to non league - community and the real world!
Now that is a professional in every sense.
