    VAR's thicker lines

    Well i never.

I take back everything I said...turns out it's a genius idea, giving the advantage to the attacker. That Fernandez goal would have been ruled out last season.

This could be the tweak that makes VAR work for the good of the game in the way it was intended.

On a related note, from what I've seen so far (early days, I know), the instructions to the refs to let the game flow more and not give those ridiculous fouls when a player feels contact and dives seem to have been taken on board. I saw several accasions today when players threw themselves down and appealed for a free kick in situations where they would have got one last season but none was forthcoming today.

Not a moment too soon, mind...it was in danger of becoming a non-contact sport. Let's hope it continues.

    Agreed.

Won't take players and managers long to work it out.

Refs just need to hold their nerves for a few weeks.

Indeed. This could see the return of the ‘hard’ men in english football.

    The Euros got it right.

Having seen our penalty this weekend - that's a piss poor decision that should have been cancelled by VAR.

Cresswell's goal was another piss poor decision that VAR corrected.

The standard of refereeing is poor in the Premier League compared to the pinnacle of European competition. We have the most expensively paid players and import them from all over the world and yet we end up clueless referees in 6 out of 10 matches every week.
