    Knighton

Extract from an article on the BBC football site about his attempts to buy Man U. I’ll just extract this bit:

“ They tried to exploit Knighton's weak points, to wear him down and make him feel the deal was not worth the hassle. Going on the pitch wasn't the 'United way', it was said behind the scenes. Neither was appearing on talk shows, which Knighton also did.

Their efforts ensured that negativity about the deal circulated quickly, and word began to spread that Knighton didn't actually have the money he said he did.”

Funny how football clubs seem to engage in similar tactics when faced with an unwelcome approach from a third party.

It's a very one sided article, Knighton tells a good after-dinner story, I'll give him that.

If they were so set against him, why did they offer him a place on the board?

The flip side would be, he pretended to be a multi-millionaire and was taking out a bank loan to get the £10 million initial investment. To be fair, you are going to get cold feet a little when you realise he didn't have the initial capital he claimed.
