1957 video - Tommy Lawton and sheep on the Meadow Lane pitch

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBrMHNG8-Zs

A pre-season ITV interview with Tommy from the same pre-season has been knocking around for a while but this one is from the BBC and includes the bizarre sight of sheep grazing on the pitch. Tommy mentions that the club's aim is to be back in the top flight by 1962. The first half of the video is focussed on Fword and you can see their new East stand being constructed (which only lasted until 1979)

The youtube channel has tonnes of BBC material from the late 1950s into the early 1960s, pre-MOTD era when it was "Sports Special" on a Saturday night with Cliff Michelmore (Tonight and later Holiday 7? fame) among the commentators.

Coincidentally I'm currently going round in circles with the website host provider trying to establish why a page about football is an abuse of service. Apparently a page that has been up for about 10 years contains a phrase which is not allowed and they won't tell me what that phrase is "for obvious reasons". What an absolute farce. So the website is going through a cycle of being up and then it's taken down again.

Does anybody know a good free host?

Some great stuff there. Thanks for the link. Particularly enjoyed Alf Ramsey talking about how to take a penalty.
I do wonder how heavyroller got access to the stuff and also wonder if the BBC footage of Notts v Bath City in the FA Cup from December 1959 is available. It was the second game I attended at Meadow Lane with my dad. I was 9 years old and Notts lost 1-0. It was televised on BBC that evening. One of the many humiliations in the cup that Notts have suffered over the years. Sigh.

1957 was a good year for me!

I was 15 years old and invited by Frank Broome (Acting Manager) through Ted Anthony(whose name some of you may recognize)
to join the youth set-up at Meadow Lane.
This I really enjoyed...living the dream, and training with my hero's...the first team on occasion.

I don't know what Ron Atkinson was doing at the Lane on this one specific day (he played for Oxford United) but I remember playing "head tennis,at the rear of the main stand with him.

Unfortunately (for me) Tommy came in to be manager later that year....and later still called us all in to tell us that the Youth Policy
was to be disbanded.....the end of my dreams, and the end of my chance to become Lawton's prodigy
