    Unai Emery now leading candidate

I did see this on social media last night but thought little of it because of how many other names I've already seen thrown in the hat. But Sky sports are now reporting it and saying we have been in talks with him over the last 48 hours. I know he didn't do well with Arsenal but I don't think many would of done at the time he was there. I like what he's done with Villareal although they haven't started the current season great. Says we will need to pays £5m compensation to get him here. Do we think this will be a good appointment if we get hold of him?

Not my first choice. He did well at Arsenal initially and i think they went on a really good run when he took over but towards the end the players weren't playing for him. I struggle to understand him in interviews because of his accent

Not my first choice but he knows the premier league. Europa final and 22 games unbeaten with Arsenal plus a top 6. 4 Europa finals, a la liga title and another title somewhere. Plays defensive counter attacking football and prob a good shout for 2 years or so, then the flair can be developed from strong foundations maybe.

I'm very much up for this appointment if it happens. I think he could be the ideal man not only for now but to take us forward.

This is what I've been thinking as well. He's the sort of manager who if he keeps us up will be brilliant to then build his own team and take the club forward. I understand people who may want someone like Howe because of him knowing the league more especially the bottom half. But in my opinion a quality manager is a quality manager and should well be able to steer us clear of relegation.

I get your point there. What I'm thinking is that it would be a shame to bring someone like Emery in and then see him fail because the club/squad is under too much pressure not to go down.

I hope not, and I will admittedly be very excited if he is appointed our next manager - fucking miiiiiiles ahead of Bruce in class and quality - and it was only a month ago I was thinking we'd never get to this point...

If we appoint Emery and spend (quite a lot of) money in January, I'm absolutely thrilled

Quite a lot of the specialist sports press claim he will be in charge at the Brighton game. £6 million to buy his contract so if it's true they must think he's worth it.

Just thinking about it where does that put Bruce with a reported £8million settlement. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Emery is a decent manager and is probably keen on proving himself in the PL after his spell at Arsenal.

All of that is immaterial with regards to the position we find ourselves in at the moment IMO.

These seemingly decent managers we are linked with - Emery, Fonseca, Favre - have no experience as far as I know with season-long relegation battles.

For me, someone like Howe - who isn't everyone's cup of tea - would be the ideal candidate at the moment. He knows that end of the table like the back of his hand, he plays decent football and can give us some stability for a while which, in my mind, is what we need.

Meanwhile, Staveley and co. can think of more long-term solutions, such as Mbappé, Haaland & Nagelsmann
