January Transfer Window 2022 - reports, tattle, noise, heresay & usual bollux.

Thought we'd struck a deal for striker Mateo-Joseph Fernandez, aged 18, who is expected to officially join on January 1 after we'd agreed an Orta 'compromise package' with his club Espanyol.

Fernandez had a release clause of £1.3million but was out of contract in the summer and Leeds were understood to have initially offered around £420,000 before increasing their bid and finally reaching an agreement.

Pipped Barca, City, Liverpool & Gunners who had all expressed an interest in the youngster who scored 44 goals in 56 games across three seasons as he rose from the U16s to the U19s and figured for the Espanyol B team.

Born in Spain - Fernandez also qualifies for England through his parents.

The press in regards to the transfer market are probably at their worst; believe it when it happens is the best policy

And just to be clear, the amount of times I've seen 'pipped' Barca/City/Scum/Liverpool etc etc for young players who then turn out to be crap is mind-boggling, in most cases these clubs never wanted them and if City really did want him, guess where he'd be- City.

Espanyol B have fully exiled him from their squad after the Leeds link emerged in December 2021. Maybe it'll get Joffy a run in the first team now if true ?

Any official announcement cannot be made until Jan regarding any deal. Possible first team opportunities sooner rather than later could have been the Orta 'deal breaker' as he was seen at TA with his parents & around the area with a club translator. FA registration & dreaded visa work application plus Covid maybe issue, we'll see.

Another reject from abroad, he will be another Rafa Mujica, not sure if hes still with us or gone.
We need players with proper 1st team experience & solid game / match time. What would be a massive bonus, if whoever arrives is 100% match fit, and doesnt know the sat nav co-ordinates to the medical centre.

And the scales they do fall, at last.

Wonder it we might recall any loaners - Davies is doing okay at Bournemouth and is a LB and Bogusz is ripping it up in Spain.

    Mcalmont looks decent too.

At least we would have players who know the system too.

I’m confused too. How would it give joffy a run in the first team?
Our main striker has been injured for 6 weeks and he hasn’t been offered a run in the first team.
I’d suggest that seeing another young striker arriving would just pi&& him off completely.
