Strange that a young lad, travelling on his own, refused the offer of a return ticket. I’d have thought that might raise concerns with the ticket seller, though hindsight is easy.

Yes you would think so but there are many instances of similar 'oversight'. Like my Dad at 80 going into Barclays and asking to draw out 20K in cash and being given it despite probably never having drawn out more than a couple of hundred in a single day. It was only thanks to the keen eyes of a relation of a MM poster who called the police that he was saved from the travelling roofers 'scam'.

As I work for a transportation agency (and before Covid travelled on buses and trains every day) part of our annual training is looking out for/spotting signs of trafficking. I'm always on the lookout but certainly wouldn't intervene directly.

Just out of interest what are the signs of trafficking Cammiola?
Presumably some are obvious, but some not

January is Human Trafficking Awareness month here in the US and our 2022 training is lined up in a couple of weeks. However, from previous classes, and particularly associated with signs on public transportation (there are many other signs of course) we are looking for younger females and males who are in the company of 'dominant' males, appear coerced, don't make eye contact, don't have official means of identification, may have 'gang' tattoos, give scripted responses...etc.
