Time for Mr Bruce to go methinks. Sawyers passes anywhere but forward, as if our creativity isn't enough.
This season is done, any decent manager would drop most of the team, and say, sorry boy's but you failed, and experiment with the kids for the rest of the season.
But he won't because he wants the win percentage on his CV.
When he came I thought Bruce was the best we could get this season to make the playoffs, he probably was, but we didn't. Like you Al, I'm not looking forward to next season if our midfield is going to consist of Sawyers, Livermore and Mowatt.
The trouble is our recruitment haven't got a clue.
Oh for a Dan Ashworth or a Ronnie Allen.
Sawyers was brilliant first half of the Bilic season. I mean really good. He retained the ball well and got us moving around, smartly. His form dropped later in the season when most players did but I still believe in a deep playmaker role, in the championship, he could be an asset.
I don’t see why Sawyers wouldn’t work next season in a three man middle.
I am utterly at a loss to say who I would retain and who I would let go. It's obvious that we require a complete overhaul but all of the squad, with the odd exception, have been poor at some point during the season. It's sheer madness to say get rid of them all, that just isn't possible.
Johnson will obviously go and Button is out of contract so, while he's done nothing wrong, he isn't someone for the future. We've got Palmer and Griffiths who have potential so we can give them a chance. Bartley, Livermore and Phillips are getting past their sell by dates so they, to me, are candidates, and obviously Zohore and Bryan. In my opinion our greatest need is in midfield where we need youth, energy and creativity. I feel that Diangana, Robinson and Grant can still do a job and hopefully Dike will come up with a the goods. Carroll can still be useful as a squad player. As for Molumby and Reach, I don't think that they are the answer but I think that Molumby has already been signed on a permanent basis. As for Sawyers, it's a gamble and is he what that midfield needs?
As I say, it's a real problem and whoever is in charge next season has got his work cut out. What I will reiterate though is, get that midfield sorted and you will halve the problem.
For sure Livermore will be the first on the team sheet. Are you saying Sawyers therefore would add pace to an already pedestrian midfield? What about forward killer balls? What about creativity which is non existent?
I could be wrong and whilst Sawyers has not been bad for a poor Stoke team - he’s not exhilarated either! Add to the equation a poor Stoke team took 6 points off us!!
Surely a very energetic creative Gallagher 2 is needed by looking overseas or the lower divisions. Had we tempted back OK we would be in the play offs but oh no it’s always
Cheap - cheap - cheap. We get what we deserve!!!
Sawyers looked classy when we won some games in this league under Bilic. And equally looks awful and pedestrian when we lose. As such, he's absolutely not suited to the prem, where we lose most of the time. In a good championship team he'd probably stand out though.
I've never known a player like him. Got to say, its time to move on from him though. There must be better out there.
It will always be cheap though Al. We’re a club that lives on budget like most in the league. Our current 3 man midfield just has chasers. We need players more comfortable on the ball, so for me a number 10 and Sawyers, with a chaser might work well. I would be surprised if Livermore is a regular next season.
There will be no experiments Leicester. Johnstone will play until the end and the same players will be rotated. As Bruce said they are tired but this tiredness does not affect Luton - Forest etc!!!
I bet Cleary can’t wait to leave and so would I if I was in his shoes!!
Sawyers is a good ball player, but did not demonstrate the energy and spirit I look for. Whilst all players make mistakes, his own goal ‘blind’ pass back emphasised this poor attitude. I don’t think the lad himself would want to come back here in any event.
Zohore similarly has yet to show any commitment, albeit I have not seen his ‘2nd team’ performances. Wasn’t he injured for a while ?
