    Badfinger - Day After Day.

I mentioned this great band a few weeks ago having been just a bit too young to have appreciated them in the early 70’s.

Today I discovered this track and I absolutely love it.

I’m sure I’ve heard it used a a score for a film but I may be wrong.

Sad that Peter Hamm took his own life at such a young age, yet another of the “27 club”, I can’t help but think he’d have become an absolute legend if he’d lived a full life.

    What a great voice.

    Superb song though....

First heard of Badfinger through their "Come and get it" single which was catchy enough although they obviously played it very much as McCartney directed them to. If I remember correctly they were signed by Apple and Pete Ham later went on to play on George Harrison's "All things must pass" album as well as playing with him on the "Concert for Bangladesh" where he played acoustic with Harrison on "Here comes the sun" amongst others. Both he and fellow bandmate, Tom Evans, obviously had talent but for some reason the band never made it big as they should have. Sadly both also had mental health issues and both men hanged themselves at quite young ages. Although Nilsson's vocal very much makes the song, Ham and Evans also wrote the classic "Without You" that gave him his biggest hit but neither lived long enough to enjoy the royalties.

Vaguely remember that from a documentary on Pete Ham several years ago. Just checked it out and Stan Polley, the band's business manager, made off with an advance payment Warner Brothers had given them which wiped out their finances. Apparently Polley defrauded several of the artists he managed. Tragic waste of life and talent much of it driven by the greed of other people. Tom Evans also later took his own life following a dispute over royalties from "Without You".
