    Sunak v Truss Round 1

Anyone watching this bun fight? Sunak is clearly the class act - sharp as a razor but deeply tainted and having to stir s**t to close the back. Truss as wooden and witless as it gets - just can’t warm to her - but has the support of the Tory blue rinse brigade. Heard there is a campaign to bring Boris back as well. After these two taking lumps out of each other ... can’t see the Tories recovering for a decade ... unfortunately with Captain Hindsight in charge can’t see Labour taking advantage ....

What a state British politics is in ....

Maggie was hardly Meryl Streep in front of a camera mate!

It’s policy that will save the Tory’s or not as the case may be.

She might not be a rock star but if she has the policies and implements quickly then she’ll do fine.

Totally agree with all of that!! Johnson should not have been hounded out! People forget - Sunak was fined and broke lock down rules too. Sunak is coming out with all this stuff now but where has the c unt been for the last two years? Sunak has done nothing and he’s a rich boy who does not give a t oss about those struggling!

Truss deserves the opportunity between the two but would have stuck with Johnson!

Starmer is more wooden than Truss. Blair like Sunak was charming but both are snakes!

Perfectly put Mick!!! Couldn’t have said it better! Sunak is a complete snake!

I just like to have leaders who inspire. Thatcher did for a while. Boris did for a while. Even Blair did for a while. In Truss I just see another Brown, May type of Government ... one which will end in ultimate failure ... maybe I am wrong ... she actually has a nice smile when not under pressure ...

Rather have an unsmiling Truss than a slimy, smarmy, corrupt cheating rich boy whose Non Dom wife is screwing the system - even if you say it’s legal! I bet the Non Dom can’t wait to restart her million pounds worth of investments in Russia! How much cash do greedy t wats want?

    Hardly inspiring was it?

To be fair, if the solution to economic problems was easy it would have been solved long ago. I agree with Truss that higher corporation tax will not help businesses to grow and that there is a need for Thatcher-esque style policies to help them, but I find it equally hard not to agree with Sunak that the extended borrowing her policies entail will ultimately lead to higher interest rates.

As for all the New Conservative talk of " levelling up" with better investment in deprived areas and improved education and the creation of better opportunities, this is all well and good but just don't expect this to involve any kind of wealth redistribution or to be part funded by higher taxation of the very rich or their companies.

I've heard this said a few times, but there is no logic in this for me. For business to grow in this country, they need investment. The lower corporation tax, the more incentive there is to take profit and not reinvest in the business. Because business investment comes out before corporation tax hits. The higher corporation tax, the more incentive there is to invest it back into business.

So as per most things Truss says, this is completely nonsensical.

The beat choice, in my opinion, would have been Penny Mordaunt but she was too popular amongst the grass roots of the Tory Party, so Sunak and Truss put the dirty tricks operation into top gear by using switched, tactical voting to keep her out.

Didn't watch the debate. Just logged in to say I find them both thoroughly repugnant and now I'm off to log one out. 'Bye kids and remember to play nicely 😊 .
