Nothing wrong with using good honest statistical methods CT although if it was as simple as that I'd be winning the Mega Millions every week

When I used to run the PL based on 10 games and predicting the scores there was one poster, who on the basis that 2-1 is the most frequently occurring score predicted either 2-1 or 1-2 for all games the entire season. He finished about mid-table.
I do admit to once using statistics to win a Pukka Pie contest on here to guess the crowd. I waited to the last minute, listed all the entries in numerical order, calculated the 'gap' between each entry to find the biggest gap and then predicted half way between those two numbers to give me the biggest range of numbers where I'd be the winner. I was gobsmacked when I was within 3 or 4 of the actual crowd, more luck than anything else really. Pies couldn't make the trip over here so ended up going to a charity food kitchen.
