    Reenergised Players

    What a turnaround.
    Philips and Bartley particularly.
Great to see Philips threatening and eager to take on defenders successfully.
Bartley refocused and (whilst worrying me to death with his endeavours to play it out from the back with short passes to O’Shea and Palmer) is concentrating on doing the simple things. Excellent.
Interesting to see his new style in deliberately being extra slow to take up position for corners, long throws and free kicks. Thereby delaying his final move to position and upsetting the defence.
I hope his over gesticulating days may be over.
I could go on naming others, but all have shown the commitment and energy levels to win us over.

If I had a complaint about yesterday it would be Diangana. He has missed two gilt edged opportunities in the last two games.
We are talking about two, perhaps three yards out in front of an open goal and the guy can't hit the target. He has fcuk all of a right foot and I always feel players like that have no real balance. Really disappointed with his finishing and thankfully we didn't have another nearly result yesterday because of it.
But surely he needs to be coached in how to use his right foot for fcuk sake.....I mean the clue is in the name, a footballer!
Anyway thats all I have to say on an otherwise beautiful day yesterday. But his glaring misses are been noted.

He had time to take a touch on his favourite foot and then lash it in.

Diangana is a lightweight, the sort of player who has to have the sun on his back and absolutely everything going his way to have a decent day, "fragile" doesn't do him justice.

I agree, he certainly has skills though just not the “spirit of Asante” which is why I would rather have the latter.

Diangana certainly should have buried that one gilt-edged chance but he does possess the skills to create chances for others and, lightweight in comparison to Asante he may be, but his work rate and competitiveness have markedly improved under Corberan.

If there was one player who I thought disappointed on Saturday it was Phillips. He played a few lovely touches and had the beating of Stoke's Clarke but he still lost possession too often.

I have been a long time critic of Phillips but I thought that he was much better yesterday; he, along with all the others, played as a team and displayed effort and determination, things that have been sadly lacking under the Bruce regime. I just hope that this rejuvenation can be maintained.

Corberan has certainly transformed the team in terms of effort and work rate but tbh, I always thought that Phillips generally put the effort and desire in anyway. What Corberan has also done though is to greatly tighten up on sloppy play and pass accuracy and this is where I felt Phillips hasn't improved as much as others. Still think he can offer something but age is also against him and doubt he will play very many 90 minutes.

Whilst it is only fair to give Bruce some credit for the players we signed, his management failings are glaringly obvious. Listen to any Corberan interview and he consistently talks about the importance of being competitive and the importance of getting the fans onside. You don't win matches unless you compete and he isn't wrong. Just can't figure out how Bruce could not install this in them.
