    Bartley’s contract extension

Whilst recognising the improvement in his performances over the last couple of games, maybe the contract extension is too early ? The ‘clear-out’ alluded to by the last couple of managers must be over before it started.
I’m hoping Bartley continues to perform well, but I wonder what the academy youngsters perceive of their future?

The extension was triggered automatically by a number of appearances, we really need to stop putting these clauses in contracts, also let's hope he continues with his current form.

Thanks SNS buddy. I wonder is the extension clause ‘reciprocal’ allowing either the Club or the Player to extend, or just ‘unilateral’ presumably allowing only one party. I would have hoped the latter with just the Club having the sole option to extend.

He rightly got hammered for some of his earlier performances this season and was dropped correctly.
But character is built in the worst of times not when everything is going well. I have been impressed by his resolve to recommit to getting his place back and has been immense in the last three games. Others have commented about his influence on the training ground and I suspect his digging deep may be having an affect on others. I hope so.
When we bought him, I thought it was a good buy at the time. For me he has under performed for the most part but perhaps he sees a chance to improve with the new management team in place now.
I see the one year add on as carrying not much risk and a good deal of upside...

Apparently his appearances have triggered an extension until summer 2024 so, as you say, let's hope he continues in his current form. It is a worry that these clauses are still included so often and don't know whether this is just us or whether it is common practice?

Could prove a good deal if he continues to improve under the new manager...

Another year of arm waving then, on the plus side at least now we can get a fee for him if we do sell, I think we can do so much better than Bartley

He’s playing well, what’s the problem?

Possibly still being one of our highest earners ? its going to effect our budget, with O'Shea and Ajayi also being under contract how is Caleb Taylor going to get a game?

Rather get rid of Livermore - Phillips - Zohore - Reach and the croc from Sheffield Utd before Bartley
