    Cancel Culture

The world is truly awful at the moment. The cancel culture has now banned the song Dililha from the Wales rugby matches. For god sake its a song about a biblical event.
Honestly what the hell is going on right now in this world. People really do need to start waking up and speaking up

    Rant over

There is a bit more to this Delilah ban than just 'Cancel Culture' strikes again, and the song is actually about a man murdering his cheating girlfriend, but it is absolutely ludicrous anyway. There was an attempt to stop England supporters singing Swing Low at Twickenham, something to do with cultural appropriation and it was about slavery or some such nonsense. The England fans took no notice whatsoever and carried on singing it, you'd hope the Welsh fans will treat this attempted ban with similar disdain, and belt out Delilah even louder and clearer this afternoon.

"I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window
I saw the flickering shadows of love on her blind
    She was my woman
As she deceived me, I watched and went out of my mind

At break of day when that man drove away, I was waiting
I crossed the street to her house and she opened the door
    She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more"

"Sam and Delilah" is a song composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. It was introduced by Ethel Merman in the 1930 musical Girl Crazy. The song is an interpretation of the biblical story of Samson and Delilah in the Book of Judges of the Hebrew Bible.

You've got to put this latest storm in a teacup into context though, this attemped ban hasn't just come out of the blue, this is from six days ago,

"Steve Phillips has resigned as the chief executive officer of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) amid allegations of a toxic culture at the organisation.

Phillips had resisted calls for his resignation, which came after a BBC documentary aired allegations of misogyny, ***ism, racism and homophobia at the governing body for rugby union in Wales."

Given the above you can understand the Wales RFU being a bit twitchy about Delilah being sung this afternoon. having said that I hope the Welsh sing it louder than ever.

Well I agree with Simon Jordans sentiments exactly. A choice of song is not the main issue

It is a crazy world UG. Although I never listen to rap “so - called” music, I understand that the lyrics often contain misogynistic, abusive and threatening lines. Seemingly that is ok and makes millionnaires of some.

Why is that not cancelled on those grounds alone? Could it be the colour of the “performers” that would render it racist to cancel it?

As sinkov often comments, the lunatics are running the asylum now!
