    Dusty.

Hours of magical stuff on BBC2 tonight listening to the magnificent Dusty Springfield, our greatest ever British singer in my opinion.

I’m getting old, this reduced me to tears…..

MOTD was better than ever, no boring rubbish to listen to from the awful pundits.

Mick, I thought a thread entitled ‘Dusty’ was going to be about the bass player in ZZ Top! There are a number of female British singers that I prefer to Dusty Springfield, Sandy Denny for one, Annie Haslam for another but each to their own.

I think Dusty's versatility was amazing Kets.

I absolutely love "Northern Lights by Renaissance from 1978, I listen to it a few times every week even now and that's what I associate Annie with.

Dusty Springfield is one of my own favourite singers too although it's not just her voice that makes a lot of her songs for me but also that particular 60s style orchestration/arrangements given to them. One of the few "blue eyed soul" artists who could pull it off.

Read her biography a couple of years ago which was interesting but she had quite a sad life really. Quite apart from issues over her ***uality she could also be riven by insecurities over her singing. Whilst perfectly capable of doing songs in one take she would sometimes insist on re-doing particular sections or phrases that she was not happy with and then they'd have to splice the different vocals together. I think Brian Wilson would do similar if I remember rightly too?

Sandy Denny for me. Remember seeing her with Fairport at Mothers in 1969. I was hooked & loved all her stuff thereafter

Definitely one of our best Mick. Shirley Bassey is our British Diva though. My mother was obsessed with her.
