Hi CAM, my grandson lives in Barnsley and when he was a similar age he started playing football for Junior Tykes and then moved on to Ecclesfield Red Rose who I would say were of reasonable standard but nothing exceptional (there were quite a few boys from Barnsley at this club through all the various age groups and parents/grandparents used to share lifts).
He later moved to Thorncliffe where the facilities are excellent and are actually a mirror image of those at St George's Park.
I think your daughter should be able to get information about local junior football clubs from Google and then contact them to explain her son is just getting interested in the sport and I'm sure one of them will be happy to give him a chance. The clubs of average standard are usually the most patient when coaching younger players and if your grandson shows promise he will have the opportunity to move to a better level anyway because he will get noticed.
My grandson spent time at Rotherham and Doncaster Academies and then fell out of love with football and is now an accomplished amateur boxer .
