    I know

Every player can improve but if you dinnae have a first touch in yer 20s you ain't gonna suddenly find one.

TD talking about improving Max cannae be talking about that, so wonder what area he specifically thinks he can improve.

Fitness......always seemed pretty fit to me.

    Game awareness.......mibbe

Tackling.......do they even coach tackling now.

Mindset.....mibbe......head I thought wud go down now and again.

    Finishing......reasonable finisher.

    Small margins in all areas......possibly.

Interesting comment, the first one. If it can't be improved with coaching why not place it as the most important talent?

There is a well known saying ‘Practice makes perfect’.
In my opinion players should be using their spare time to practice and improve their footballing skills.

When you were working did you use your spare time to improve your banking skills? I use my spare time to get away from my work and to partake of leisure pursuits that have nothing to do with work. Why are footballers not allowed to do the same and why are they expected to be practising every spare minute they have?

In my spare time I used to play golf tying to get better every time.
Footballers who can only kick the ball reliably with either their right foot or their left foot should practise to be able to reliably be able to kick a ball with their left foot and right foot.

I disagree and believe they should do that during work time, leisure time should be just that even for footballers.

Golf was a leisure pursuit for you and you enjoyed playing it but rather than a footballer playing and enjoying a round of stick ball after a hard day's training, physio or whatever you'd deny them the right to enjoy the same leisure activity you loved so much? Why?

Possibly because when they are fit they do precious little but tick over for the rest of the season.....or that's the impression I get.

It's no exactly a long hours job, fairly pressurised but no long hours.

Have you seen the Tony Watt blog 😆 6k per week for hunting Doon bakeries and doing an audition to be next presenter of food and drink.

Can a touch be coached is what I'm asking, technique maybe but surely you have to have a feel for caressing a football.

The Bomber ❤️ my fav player ever didn't have a great touch but Bobby Connor, georgi, chic Charnley and fab cab just wow, was this coached?

    Doubt it.

I never had 'a touch' but my son did. I noticed it when he was about a year old, could barely walk and was being held up on on somebody's fingers but could trap a ball and boot it straight back at you.

I don't think a touch can be fully coached, it's about perception and judgment which are dependent on how the brain works i.e. the ability as much as about knowing how to actually do it - i.e. the skill. I always knew I had to have a soft foot when the ball came at me with snow on it, didn't stop the ball skiting right back where it came from off that very same foot or me deciding at the last second that the thigh was the better option - then the ball skiting right back where it came from. I was a terrible footballer and it was partly (very small part I reckon) due to being long sighted and my brain never being sure how far away the ball was from me. Obviously my lack of ability and any skill contributed more.

The guys you mention, including GGH just had the combination of the ability and the skill. You can coach the skill but not the natural ability derived from brain function.

And apologies to GGH for missing him out.
