    Moeen Ali

What an embarrassment this guy is, batted like an absolute fanny and his bowling getting smashed to all parts, should have stayed retired, shambles, plus don’t get me started on the over hype of Stokes’s captaincy, declaring on the first day of an opening Ashes test with Root going well is not just pure arrogance but plain stupid, make no mistake the Aussies will win this

    The Aussies will win this?
So what's new? They usually beat us, so do Windies, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, S. Africa and didn't Holland beat us once or was it Scotland?
We should be thankful that not many countries bother about the game and that it rains a lot over here which makes our losses look respectable.

    Absolute rubbish Des……utter gibberish.

All of the other nations you’ve named have regularly had their a r s e s kicked by us, many in recent times.

We’ve shared series wins with the Aussies over the past 20 years, in the 80’s we regularly hammered them.

I texted a mate on Friday evening and said the same Bomber.

Not only did I think we’d given another 30 to 50 runs away but I also felt the decision dripped with arrogance.

I said to my cricket loving mate that it felt like w e were taking the p I s s out of the Aussies and if I’d been in their camp it would’ve given me added motivation.

Apart from Root and Bairstow non of the batting impressed me, too many of our side like Crawley and Duckett and Pope seem to think a quick 30 or 40 is good enough.

Bairstow’s keeping isn’t good enough either, I’d promote him to open and bring back Foakes.

The simple fact is this……England have come to entertain, the Aussies have come to win which they will, they are a far better bowling outfit than us and they bat properly.

I have just seen the most incredible field setting ever by England - it surely must have confused the hell out of Kawaja with six faces all staring at him before Robinson yorked him.

No one would have complained about the declaration if we had taken a wicket Friday night. Returning to the subject if anything is going to to cost us this test it's the lack of a quality spinner.

Absolutely spot on, the lead should be 50 not 7, if England want Bairstow and Brook in the same side then Stokes is the man to go, obviously can’t bowl and his batting is hit and miss, bit like Buttler, failure after failure then a world class innings which is remembered ahead of anything else, not a patch on Ian Botham

It gave us four overs to bowl at them in glorious conditions and as Nick Knight said last night on the T20 Blast commentary 923, he’d much rather face those few overs at the end of a day than wonder when exactly he’d bat the following day.

In the paper today one of the Aussies said they’d expected Stokes to declare, the unexpected is now the expected.

If we’d been 9 down with batsmen 10 and 11 scratching around on a pitch doing a bit then yes of course, stick them in.

But, Root and Robinson were seeing it like a football and every commentator thought we were light on runs.

I think that was a 500 first innings pitch.

I think Stokes sets the tone and I wouldn’t even think of dropping him but I do think McCullum should rein him in at times.

Stokes is another one who could easily open, maybe he’d act a bit more responsibly.

Moeen is playing like someone whose brain is elsewhere, I’d look to play the kid Rehman in the next match or maybe Liam Dawson.

Or, just use Root as spinner and replace Moeen with Wood.

    Exactly, grind ‘em down first
