It is not every French person that is out in the streets. The rioters are using the shooting as an excuse for violence and destruction. They are vandalising the property of innocent people, totally unrelated to the incident in Paris. They are destroying their own communities.

There are serious social and racial tensions in France and have been for years. This especially true of Paris, Lyon and Marseilles. The old saying: “when in Rome does as the Romans do” is still true. However, a lot of the immigrants going to France from the old French empire want to maintain their cultures, their mores, do not want to integrate into the community. Likewise the French are protective of their culture and way of life. They resent being forced to accept others way of life.

A recipe for serious social issues. Something that Bliar overlooked in his desire to see Britain as multicultural.

Sadly, it is not as simple as BT makes out - that it is white supremacy oppressing the poor immigrants. How would the English feel if a Muslim majority decided that all pubs in England had to close because of their ban on alcohol? Would everyone simply say “ok” or would they take to the streets to protect their indigenous culture?

Similarly, the inequality and class differentials are not imposed upon people. That is a simplistic, myopic view of the issues. There are two sides to every story. We do not know the full story. It is a tragedy whatever and has the potential to be murder - not necessarily borne out of racist motives. Racism means a sense of feeling superior to another race, people or culture. Murder is murder.

Were the policeman let off without a fair trial, I would admit that would discriminatory and unfair. He is not above the law, unless whatever the young man was doing threatened the police officer such that the policeman’s life was endangered.

I suggest that automatically assuming a position that the person is of Algerian descent and thereby totally innocent, whereas the police officer is white and therefore guilty is a form of racism based on current usage.

I prefer to await the outcome of due legal process before taking sides in the matter.

As regards the white person from Blackpool, life can be hard. I was born and raised in a working class environment, with a single mother when my parents divorced. I had hand me down clothes from my elder brother. I never had spending money and had to work for anything. What I did have was the opportunity for a decent education. I took advantage of that, worked my socks off to get qualifications, took risks.

What I didn’t do was sit around feeling sorry for myself, being a victim and blaming everybody else for my lot in life.
