    Top-5 finish

Looks like next season it will be more about top-5 rather than top-4. Uefa grants extra CL spot for 2 countries with most points per season.
Smart move from UEFA to invite Newcastle to the table and not upsetting their big 4 darlings - whoever they are

Jokes aside, I think its crucial for club development to get into CL this year. We were struggling with FFP this summer

it doesn't include us i don't think. It will only apply to teams that have represented the PL in the CL over the past few years

and have some sort of European points pedigree. If any of the greedy 6 finish 5th, they qualify for CL.

If we finish 5th, we quality for Europa league.

At least thats what i got told, i started a thread on it a while back

It's absolutely staggering isn't it. Why should previous performance in a tournament have any bearing on future tournaments? The only reason is financial. It's pure corruption.

Do we really want to be a part of this crap?

Yeah I remember you did post a thread. Have you got a link?

Is there a way to request Mods combine links so we continue conversations rather than repeat when we get new folks joining the convo?

the UCL is moving to 'The Swiss Model' where unless it's a watch is gonna stink like rotten cheese no doubt! It's one massive league which basically puts the highest ranking clubs by past participation at the top like Kings in castles whilst the rest of the 'lesser European teams' fight amongst themselves to drag themselves through the group stages to something approaching a recognisable knock out tournament.

Basically it separates the top teams further so that they don't have to compete directly until the very end, get easier matches on the run up and fortify their positions and earning each season.

This OF COURSE is all done under the banner of DEVELOPMENT getting more diverse clubs into the competition and 'Wealth Sharing' when in reality it's yet another pathetic attempt to UEFA to ring fence the usual corrupt and badly run football brands in a weak attempt to stave off the advances of the 'Super League'

Sadly, the top teams are already separated enough. Not like any further separation. They just replace group stage with some “league” stage with 36 teams where they play 8 matches, call it day and say this is final table after 8 rounds.
Then they all proceed to usual knockout stage.

I hope you’re wrong otherwise that’s a big change in the rules. Places have always been awarded to leagues and never to particular clubs.
If true, it’s another massive slap in the face to sporting integrity.

Just checked. It is the league which receives the extra place. The extra place goes to the two leagues with the ‘highest coefficient’ (whatever that means?) in the PREVIOUS season. This is currently England and Spain.
The format of the 2024/25 CL competition will also change. Instead of qualifying groups there will be a league structure where each team plays 4 home and 4 away games to qualify for the knock out phase.
So, basically, 5th position in England should qualify forCL, whoever it is.

Thats how I read it too - 5th place probably get to CL
League coefficient is basically all the points of league clubs in europe divided by number of clubs. England usually top or 2-3rd.

I think we'll do very well to qualify this season.

I'd be delighted with 5th, but this season is going to be so tough.

All the teams around us have strengthened considerably: https://www.skysports.com/football/n...s-club-by-club
