    Birmingham City Council

Just read that it has declared itself in "financial distress" . I'm sure many other councils are under similar pressures at the moment but the £760m to settle the long standing equal pay claims certainly didn't help! Not good news for Britain's "second city" but, yet again, I doubt any individuals will be brought to book for any incompetencies.

The Union backed Abdulla group of 170 women took them to the high court over 10 years ago. The council should have settled out of court, maybe, but this seems like opportunistic ambulance chasing to me.

I know for a fact there is widespread abuse of money and spending at the council
    Backhanders everywhere
There are a certain section of the community in Birmingham who are short term in their thinking and want to get as much as they can
They cry racism every oppurtunity and are absolutely robbing the council blind

Same with Sandwell, you dont have to google too hard to find evidence

It’s an absolute joke and if labour get in it will be more and more widespread

I don’t trust any of em all have their hands in the pot

It’s either a few taking a lot out or a **** old taking less out
End result is fair honest people get f u c k ed

I know that many councils are struggling at the moment due, in part, to both ever decreasing financial support from government and increasing demands across a range of services but, for as long add I can remember, BCC has never had a good reputation. The vast majority of the corruption and back-handers that were almost endemic at one time may have gone but there are still examples of ineptitude. The mis-handling of the equal pay issue and the IT c ock up seem typical and then wasn't there that recent squit over bin men being allowed to continue the pandemic practice of being allowed to finish their shifts early if jobs all done? Very clearly, if they can consistently do tasks in less hours then they should be set more tasks or else not be paid for those non productive hours. Guess, like any business or service -though particularly in the public sector- once it gets too big you start to see bits of empire building when the emphasis seems more about protecting jobs than increasing productivity and service levels.
