True-but its 83 years ago not 25/50/75/100 so probably not seen as warranting an official anniversary. Besides, aside from Irishman John Hemingway (a remarkable 104 now) there are no longer any survivors who fought in the battle. I wonder if it will be commemorated in 2040 though?

I think the only war related commemoration that will be continued going forward is Remembrance Sunday. How odd that though it has come to be a remembrance for all those service men and women who lost their lives during conflicts since 1918 as well as WW1 itself, I still very much associate it with the Great War. Maybe because I knew a few who had served in it? Today it is rare to come across those who served in the Second World War. Must be getting old😞

A complete insult to my grandparents generation.

We’ve become scared of our own history and consumed with wokeness.

I won’t say I’m past caring, I’m just so angry about stuff like this that I have to try not to think about it too much as it just eats away at me.

All I can do is make sure my grandkids know our history and the truth and not just the shy te they are being fed at school and by media.

Disgrace isn't it. I volunteer for some sessions of Suss ex At War where we go into schools and talk to year 6 about many aspects of life specifically in 1940 . Not one of the class of 31 today knew what The Battle of Britain was let alone what was so very important about it. And not only to Britain.

How many 10 year old French kids do you think don't when Bastille Day is?

How many Russian kids Victory Day.

How many American kids don't know when Independence Day is or Pearl Harbour?

And every Aussie kid knows when ANZAC day is and Australia Day. Just about the only day celebrated for the arrival of a British fleet!

Still they'll all be able to tell me when Halloween is. Grrrrrr.

Quite agree that our children should be brought up knowing this country's history-good or bad. The problem is not just in what topics/events are currently being taught but also how they are taught. History should be learnt from but it seems few teachers actually encourage the children to really question the actions of the past and debate them or draw parallels to the present. May not be all their fault though as the curriculum seems to encourage following too much of a woke agenda at the moment. Small wonder we have a younger generation more keen on closing down topics rather than debating them.

Kids seem to know about dinghies taking on a new dimension and the geography of sailings!

More emphasis at some schools rather than history on - be what ever you want to be as long as your happy! FFS!

Kids have a break from schools and then see taking the knee bollox, rainbow laces and even early on television a couple of chaps swapping tongues!

History? More about what’s unacceptable and statues being vandalised!

Flying the National Flag like the USA? God forbid - that’s not allowed here!

The Battle of Britain is very close to my heart as I live in a town which encountered many dogfights with the Germans. My parents used to tell me about watching the action from their back garden. We still have Spitfires coming over most days sometimes two abreast. The sound of that Merlin engine is very distinctive and I still go out into the garden to watch them before they head back to Biggin Hill.

While I lived 10 years on the Isle of Wight I was engrossed by the tales of those heroes who kept national socialism from our door steps. My landlady was a child around Biggins hill and I spent hours into the wee hours listening to all her stories of her young adult life watching all this unfold. What marvellous memories I have af that time. The hotell i worked in served as a billet for the allied soldiers before D-Day and often we found items when ever we did renivation work in the hotel.
Not a day goes by when I don't think of these heroes. Not one f u c king day.
And now we face the same tyrants today and are sleep walking into it.

Not surprised by this. But shows how the morals of the world have declined from that great generation, that preserved democracy for some.
All to fecking busy with the whole me me me me thought.
Strangely enough WW1 never ended with the armistice signing, though many think it did.
Even stranger WW2 never ended with the surrender of the axis powers. It just went into "Cold storage"
Remarkably WW3 is right on our door step. Who would we rely on today?
