    Talking heads talking b o l l o c k s!

I stayed up especially to watch a piece on SKY NEWS’s Press Preview programme last night about Amazon being investigated in the USA for ripping off third party sellers on their platform.

I’m sure most of you understand the term “third party seller”……that term describes someone like me who sells their goods through the Amazon platform.

Amazon charge us around 15.3% per sale value but also charge us if we use their warehousing and their shipping service on top of the 15.3% fee.

Every year on the 1st of May they increase their fees for shipping and handling by at least 10% regardless of whether inflation has been that high or not and they’re forever charging extra for other add ons that you can’t avoid.

They also relegate your product and promote their own option even if you’re a bit cheaper on the same item, they are such a monopoly they just do what they want.

So this investigation into the adverse affect on third party sellers like me was the discussion point.

Despite the very professional host Anna Botting trying her best with the two idiots being asked for “expert opinion” both contributors had no grasp of the situation and just made inane comments about the buying customer getting ripped off by Amazon!

That was NOT the subject matter being discussed.

Just another example of a really poor grasp of a subject by both left and right leaning journalists who really should understand the subject matter they are being paid to offer opinion on.

At least the FT write up seems informed. Sadly, Mick seems right when it comes to the increasing lack of quality "experts" that get wheeled out these days across various media outlets-and it's certainly not limited to politics or business as the current level of football punditry amply demonstrates!

Anyhow, maybe people are at least belatedly beginning to realise that the power of mega companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google etc. needs to be curbed.
