£915 m EFL new deal for football

Just read about the above going to ballot later this month. Unsure of where the money is coming from, unless a redistribution of all that swilling around in the PL ? , but distributed over 6 years for all 72 affected clubs it works out at an average of about £2 m a year per club for 6 years.

On the face of it, this can only be good news for our cash strapped selves but on consideration maybe there are two issues- firstly, will Lai only try to pocket the money himself (or at best try and recoup some of his losses before selling) and, secondly, if all clubs get an equal share, then the status quo with us being poor in comparison to others continues. £2 m in today's market is nothing really but one consequence of such an injection of cash will surely only be to push prices for players further up a bit more. Such players will be as unattainable then for us as they are now. The only silver lining may be that we will not be forced to sell existing players perhaps.

I think there will be even less Saturday 3 o'clock kick offs. When this happens don't blame Sky blame football selling out the fans.

Dare say it's great news for armchair supporters. It's absolutely and utterly word removed for those of us who actually enjoy home and away days. Another nail in the coffin of the game I grew up with.

Finances and distance have meant that, sadly, I have mostly become an armchair fan myself over the past years but totally agree with you about kick off times. Money and big business have changed the game massively-and certainly not all for the better. Sky have played a big part in this.

I don't know what has happened in this particular instance, but I do know they were talking about scrapping parachute payments for relegated prem teams down to the championship. It wouldn't surprise me if that has been factored into this deal.

Even us as a club that has generally benefitted from parachute payments, they are especially unfair on other clubs in the championship who do not receive that income. Not only do clubs come down from the prem with usually a very good squad, but also they're given tens of millions in parachute cash to soften the blow of losing the prem money. Makes it very hard for clubs who have been in the Champ for several seasons being able to compete.

So yeah basically, I imaging parachute payments are being scrapped...but I haven't read into the details of it.

Undoubtedly the advent of the premier league which turned football from a sport to a business ruined it for the majority of genuine football supporters, look at the winners of the league/fa cup/ European cups pre and then look post. Utterly destroyed the game.
