If you believe wots been said over the last decade or so we would be up to our necks in freezing water by now.
Yellow weather warnings, we used to call these **** days
I don't think they realise how much these storm warnings affect business.
It used to only be hurricanes that were named then some smert erse with nothing better to do to occupy their time, or maybe to justify their job, decided storms should be 'named' - in alphabetical order same as hurricanes of course. Now a certain type of person thinks they're as bad as hurricanes. I'm off overseas tomorrow and the young girl I'm travelling with has already been in touch worried because of the amber weather warning for rain and 45mph gusts, that's nothing really - scaremongering is all it is.
A bit windy and wet was how we described these storms in the old days.
Anybody remember when the extent of a weather warning was 'wrap up warm and take a brolly'?
So many agencies with a vested interest in exaggerating everything associated with the weather......wether warm, cold, windy, wet, dry or snowy.
It's always a drama.
Angus Cooncil put out a statement today. Honest you'd think the apocalypse is nigh. Don't travel unless an absolute emergency, scaffies get a day off no collections, schools on notice of being closed; stand by your phones at 7 am. etc. How did we ever manage in the past?
We just got on with things.
I can remember Scotland being hit with the tail end of hurricane around 1968 which caused a lot of damage to tenement buildings in Glasgow resulting in some becoming uninhabitable.
From memory I think it was March 1968.
I can remember the noise from the wind howling throughout the night.
