    Sporting motivated to sell Diomande

    https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle...d-carpet-deal/

The outlet has another piece about Sporting’s interest in selling the centre-back for less than his release clause. That means his price dropping from €80m to €50-60m.

Let's see how much truth is in this one.

I hope we're not after him, after I discovered hes from The Ivory Coast. I thought he was french for some reason...

No ACON players for me. Its a no go for me, no matter how good they are.

More yes than no, but wouldnt mind another Drogba or Salah.
I would say for half the money it is worth the shot, if it is massive investment like 50-60 then I’d rather look somewhere else

I agree. Especially in such a key position.

Unless its a low enough price to make it worthwhile.

So by that logic, you guys wouldn't have signed, Yaya Toure or Mo Salah?

Come guys, if the lad is gonna mature to be our VDV as Botman develops to be our Kompany £50m for a lad who's gonna be with us for 6-8 years is a bargain.

Especially now we are a club with a board of directors and a recruitment team who over the next few windows will continue to bring in quality cover to replace Lascelles as we're seeing them do with Lloyd Kelly, we aren't gonna be moaning that he'll be away at the Cup of Nations if the same season we win the FA cup, League Cup of even the Premier League title are we?

I get your point about Salah and Toure but we are not at City/dippper level of squad depth yet. IMO CB is a ***** position. You want continuity there and your player always be available because if you dont you essentially will need 2 starters. For the right price, yes, as I said but not for 50/60 mill. Thats a massive outlay for a player you know will miss games in our financial position.

yeah you've got a point mate, you want a stable back 4-5 and we see what happens to us and others when key defenders are out for long periods of time during the season.

Guess it depends how highly the club value the fella and what his resale value could be potentially in 3-5 yrs time.

Saying that, which clubs are gonna be able to afford a CB worth around £100-120m in 3-5 yrs.

What is clear is that we absolutely need a quality long term replacement for Schar. Gordon is hyping his England mate Guehi.

Seems like a quality player from what I've seen, however, being honest I ain't seen a lot of the lad. Again it appears that Palace will want a pretty penny for the lad. £50m for him too. With the benefit of him being home grown and again adding to the allocation for European competition once we qualify again at the end of the 24/25 season. That also negates the whole Month out issue.

Plus it's another England international in the Newcastle United first team. In terms of international profile of the club, having those players in the first team squad is a really good thing.

The benefit of Diomande is Ivory Coast fans will be casting an eye on us. Whilst Africa isn't the USA, Japan or other rich countries they are absolutely football obsessed. So swing and round abouts in terms of potential sponsorships and other 'non-football' related investments into the club.

Suspect in his case we'd be used to flush out interest from CL clubs to be honest.
