I started watching, football in the early 70's. I remember my Dad watching a Liverpool game in tv and tutting as a heavily permed Kevin Keegan indulged himself by running into the kop after a goal.
My old man said ' it was way over the top' and that in his day, it was a pat on the back and a handshake between players after a goal. I thought he was being old fashioned but now I feel the same.
Watching Ronaldo's monstrous ego in the Portugal game and Bellingham, standing arms out- stretched like Christ the Redeemer is way over the top, for people who play a game for a living.
I think they have lost all perspective because we build them up too much.
