    Grey Wolves

Turkish player gets a 2 match ban for making a wolf gesture after celebrating a goal.

The gesture is the symbol of the far right, ruling party in Turkey.

When did UEFA take it upon themselves to decide the government of another country is unacceptable? Not enough to ban them from the competition but enough to ban a player who is proud of his government?

Dangerous precedent this. Who the hell do UEFA think they are?

Yes, dangerous indeed, but consistent in their approach to manipulating how people think.

Footballing bodies are constantly saying they don't involve themselves with politics but then endorse taking the knee and lighting stadiums up in Ukrainian colours but then ban Palestinian flags. Wasn't the poppy under threat at one stage if I remember correctly.I presume the Turkish Government are democratically elected?

And then laughingly they want players to wear a Respect arm band.

I wonder if they’d given him a warning.

Except they're not the ruling party in Turkey.

I get the point you're making and I'm not going to pretend that I know a thing about Turkish politics, but...

After a quick Google, the main takeaways are that the Grey Wolves are a racist, fascist and borderline terrorist organisation. Banned in various countries and apparently responsible for murders, persecution of ethnic minorities and an attempted assassination of the Pope by one of their members.

Any gesture of support for such an organisation is never going to fly with UEFA or am I missing something?
