    Opening Day Line Up…

    As it stands, who do we think starts on opening day? I reckon 9 of 11 are nailed on;

    Bass

    Macari
    Platt
    Bedeau

    Nemane
    ?
    Robertson
    Jones

    Crowley
    ?

    Jatta

My gut tells me Edwards will drop into CM but I can’t pick who’ll start in the other 10 role; Austin, McGoldrick or Scott. I’d go for McGoldrick; gives us a little bit more flexibility with the shape in-game.

At least we won't be facing Rob Apter - that had to be the best individual performance against us last season.
Those 13 you mention looks like a more-than-competitive matchday squad to me. But how ready are we? Our last two L2 opening games were disastrous.

The game is a complete unknown. New(ish) manager, new defence, new attack and new midfield combinations! Tend to think if we get anything out of this we will be lucky. Also tend to think we will need to exercise extreme patience for the first ten games or so. Instead of being excited about the coming season I am dreading it in a way.

This has the right sort of feel to it until Matty Palmer is back.
I expect Kellan Gordon (if he is fit) to be on in the 2nd half to allow Jodi to move over to the left or come inside.

Tranmere released 14 players and signed 7. Don’t think we are the only club with new combinations etc..
I think the whole FFP has played a role in shaping squads. Teams know points will be deducted for breaches so are making sure they are within the rules comfortably.

Agree with this. Think McGoldrick has to start based on his pre-season form, personally I’d like to see him and Jatta as an outright front two with Crowley behind. Part of the reason (in my view) that McG was not quite as good as expected last season was he rarely played in his actual position - he’d scored 24 goals in L1 as a #9 with Derby the season before. Langstaff leaving means he should get more of a go there.

Robertson may be a fitness doubt which could mean another of the new midfielders or Austin starting. Nemane and Jones as wing backs is a defensive risk as we saw last season - don’t rule out him tinkering with the shape and playing Jones on the right (hopefully this wouldn’t mean Nemane at R.

Bench looks a little light with so many (presumably) out, only really Austin and Scott as attacking changes if it’s the team above.

What can we expect from Tranmere? Where are their strengths?

    From Tranmere's forum.....

"The first season in a while when we seem properly prepared with our signings made early on and the core of the squad together. I'm excited to see good football this season."

"Yes we are looking good think we need another goalie on loan and I think we will be ready my only concern at moment is the injuries at the back not sure walker is the answer"

"There does seem a lot of optimism and positivity around atm, both from Nigel and the fans which is a good sign. Pretty much everyone I’ve spoken to are excited, maybe over 8k for first game given probs around 1500 Notts fans."

"After keeping our best players, a coherent transfer window and a great preseason, we're obviously going to lose 2-0."

"Here's hoping their defence is as comical as last season...last term their defending was probably the worst in the entire footy league, "

I think two of our three marquee signings made this week will start.
