    Romared Match Thoughts--Barnsley-v-Bristol Rovers

Because of the International Weekend there are only three Third Division fixtures this weekend--

    Barnsley-v-Bristol Rovers
    Charlton-v-Rotherham
    Wrexham-v-Shrewsbury

Presumably the other clubs must be bristling with international players.

It provides an ideal opportunity to burst into the upper end of the Play Off Zone.

The absence of Premiership and Championship games means the normal Saturday 3pm TV blackout does not apply so the Barnsley game will be live on Sky TV.

I think it will be a tight affair and can see no further than a share of the spoils , hopefully I am wrong and we get the points .

They've edda decent start. They've only conceded 2 goals and like us have 7 points.

They ent got the best record at Oakwell over the years but we can't buy a home win either. 1-1 for me.

I don’t think Humphreys will start:

    ————— Gaby
    Cotter - Mael - Pines - Earl
    ———- Craig - Connell
    —Lofthouse - Dunn - Phillips
    —————— Marsh

    4231
And yes - I prefer Marsh to Cosgrove and especially Watters.
I have not got much faith in those 2.

"I have not got much faith in those 2"

    Why?

They're spreadsheet signings by the man you deem a football expert and mathematical genius- your words not mine by the way.

I personally think that they're doing ok. They both need a run in the team yo show what they can do.

    Why ???
Firstly because they ain’t as good as the two that left the club - Cole and McAtee.

Yer can see the reasoning behind signing Watters - power and speed.
But he hasn’t developed into a natural goalscorer.
Or should that be - he hasn’t showed that he’s a natural goalscorer yet.

Cosgrove - is just a big lump.
We needed a target striker - but one that’s mobile.
He definitely isn’t a Morris or a Dike.

If the ball drops loose in the box then I’ve more faith in Marsh getting onto it than the above 2.

I can’t understand the reasoning behind letting Cole go without a replacement.
Some supporters saying Cole dropped off towards the end of the season but that isn’t an indication he was a bad player.
It’s probably an indication that he was unsettled.
Maybe because he knew by the end of the season he would be leaving.

It's called "managed decline" Nudge. Just looking at the players we sign ie not loans, as a general rule (always the odd exception) the quality of the players we sign has fallen in recent seasons, as has the pool we fish in--Fourth Division, Non-league, free agents with no club.

Eventually the club runs out of player assets to sell and comes to rely on the odd Cup windfall to finance incoming transfers.

Hopefully some squad members will return from injury today and Dunn will have a storming home debut.

    Go Well Clarke's Super Reds.

The day's of Bradshaw departing and Woodrow replacing him are long gone at this level .

We still had a bit of clout at this level once over but not anymore .

Doesn't mean we can't be successful of course but the ducks have to line up way more than they once did in my opinion .

Whether the appointment of a Research Scientist to the role of Sporting Director bears any fruit will be interesting .

The best recruitment man the club's had in recent times actually wasn't a recruitment man by title he was the CEO .

What set him apart was that he was an ex professional footballer but apparently that's old skool now .

Fancy thinking someone good enough to play professional football at a high level in Germany would know anything about player recruitment ???

    Computer says - NO.

    Individual opinions count for nothing.
Stats are the way forward - as in the way of Moneyball.
Couple of years time AI will determine the players to pursue.
And I’d guess the club is on with introducing that already.

The raincoat, flat cap, tab end, whippet, stood on the touch line days are well and truly over.
    Thank God.

A club currently of this size - with a reputation of finding rough diamonds and selling them on for £££Millions - that is envied by other clubs that don’t have that capability - which obviously attracted Chien Lee to the club - and still we have down in the dumps hang dog supporters saying its ’managed decline’.

Jeez - can you imagine spending any time with folk like this ???
I’d end up floating down the river Dearne face down.
