    Player of The Quarter Season

A few contenders from new signings and last season's players.
    How about Alex Bass?

    Bass
    Platt
    Bedeau
    Crowley
    Jatta

    In that order for me.

I agree with that and the order, it’s been very good recruitment that 4 of that 5 are recent signings. Would be good to get to Jan if maybe we can add 2 or 3 further up the field if the likes of Brown, Martin don’t work out and Scott’s still on leave but that’s not to say them 3 won’t work out, Brown and Marin must now be up to speed with fitness and our tactics so hopefully we can see properly what they can do.

This list is similar to my thoughts. Certainly the three signings of Bass, Platt and Bedeau have created a strong trio and reducing our goals conceded to 0.92 a game so far is a massive improvement on last season and is a title winning defence as that equates to 42 goals over a season. Mansfield had the best defence last season conceding 47 followed by Stockport 48. So we are on course defensively so far.

I did say on here last season that this season we may have to accept scoring less goals than last season and currently this is at 1.67 goals a game so would be 77 goals over the season compared to 89. Crawley got promoted albeit via the playoffs scoring 73 goals.

It's expected with the loss of Langstaff that we may lose a few goals, but with Jatta and I would mention also JJ and McGoldrick as they have done well when they have played and have been instrumental in us being up there in the mix 1/4 of the way through.

It's so far so good and if we can get through this period of injuries and be in a similar place at Christmas to where we are now then this could set us up for a good second half of the season as those new players in the building will only improve as a unit the more games they play together.

I've always likes the stat from tennis "unforced errors". Notts have vastly improved.

Cracking thread. I was going to post it but glad ThaiPie did.

It's very, very tight I think - this was easier to do last season. There are the week-in-week out stalwarts on the one hand and the star turns who have missed a few on the other. Comparing those 2 groups is really difficult, but in the end I go with

    1) Platt - Nobody's contributed more across the first 12 games, he's even thrown in a couple of goals! (pace of 8 for season!)
    2) Crowley - a couple of duds, but let's not forget he's been stellar in 8 games, by my count
    3) McGoldrick - he's been a match winner for us, 5 of his 7 starts were fantastic
    4) Bass - best keeper we've had in years, but we can't say he's had a lot to do across the 12 games
    5) Jatta - If it wasn't for the concussion there's no doubt he's v.high on the list, so it'd be unfair to mark him down for that

Honourable mentions, in no particular order

Bedeau - been incredibly consistent, not a bad game yet
Jones - played half our games and would clearly be TOP of the list if it was a straight average
Macari - played every league game, started like a train but then dropped off a notch

Agree with Bass. Think if we had had him last season, the outcome would have been play offs

For sure. Or to look at it differently, if we'd had Slocombe or Stone in goal this season, we'd probably be midtable. The difference between having a keeper who gains you points and a keeper who loses you points is huge.

Aidan Stone turned out to be a very disappointing signing and people are quick to forget that despite Sam Slocombe's many howlers he has also made some very good saves which go a long way to balancing things out. BTW has he ever saved a penalty in his whole career?
Alex Bass on the other hand has been an excellent signing and combined with the new guys in front of him the Notts defence at last looks formidable.

As much as he is a massive improvement on what we had last year, even Bass would struggle with the seemingly constant Baldwin and Cameron slip ups.
