Off the top of my head I don't think any of the official history books give a specific date and not even the month they first met up after work to play, only that they initially got together on Thursday afternoons (half-day closing) in 1862.

There?s a couple of wiki pages that suggest the date and a few articles that quote it, but not found anything official. However, 28 Nov 1862 was a Thursday!

Looks like that date was a mistake in the Nottingham Guardian, apparently it was another club they got mixed up with.
Neither of Tony Brown's books commit to a date. I'd assume Warsop's 1984 book (which I don't own but have looked through) doesn't give a date either if it's not in Brown's. Warsop's was written when we were in the top flight but the tone of it is quite striking, I got the impression from it that the club felt that was where it belonged at the time, not that they were overachieving, and the rivalry with Fword came through very strongly as well.

Maybe we can celebrate the formal organisation of the club next week:

There was quite a comprehensive thread about all this on this site in Sep 2017
