I watched the report on BBC Reporting Scotland this evening (Friday) and it is costing ?7 million for three years.
There is nothing to prevent drug users attending this site 10 times a day to feed their drug habit free of charge.
John Swinney was interviewed but there was no mention from him about the Scottish Government methadone scheme which has been in operation for about 20 years and in my opinion has been an expensive flop.

I fail to see how these places will cut deaths if they're in such a small catchment area, they will need one on every street corner and the real cost will come when someone dies in one of these facilities.

Be better spending the cash on trying to eradicate the whole problem.
Stop the dealers,increase jail term.
Stop it at source, concentrate on heroin as biggest problem.

Methadone does play a part in keeping addicts alive. However, there does not appear to be enough investment in rehabilitation. It should be cheaper to run the drug clinics, but where is the rehabilitation element.

Might find that the unintended consequence is that chemist's whose main income is derived from methadone, find that their city centre sites are no longer viable.

Speculation on my part, but I wonder the SNP would start a new system that did not save them money, and that money could be invested in rehabilitation.

I played in a golf match between Islay Golf Club and Kilmacolm Golf Club about 20 years.
The Kilmacolm Golf Club member told me that he owned two pharmacies in Glasgow and he was receiving ?10,000 (ten thousand pounds) per year from the Scottish Government per pharmacy to dispense a daily swig of methadone to drug users registered with his pharmacies.
I think it was stated on the BBC Reporting Scotland news last week that there were 100 deaths from drugs in Glasgow in 2024.
