Has/is anyone on here been or currently being affected by storm Eowyn.

Poor souls in many northern areas are suffering and are without power.

Hope all are keeping safely tucked up indoors.

It has made me think whether these storms are any more ferocious than those of a few decades ago or whether is it due to the naming of storms today by meteorologists, linked perhaps by the access of media most have today, that makes it appear so.

Ah, Eowyn. It seems the type set does not like the e with an accute accent.

Hi, It's not too bad here in the Black Country , Blue sky,it's cold and the has been max of 50mph wind .
It was bad in the night , but no damage to the house , my little dog stepped outside and quickly run bag in .

Same where we are. A bit windy last night, some heavy gusts bit today, cloudy and not much more than a breeze.

It's course Leicester was always more north westerly and targeting Ireland as a whole and northern Scotland. Many places further south will have had a pleasant day for sure. I lived through the famous hurricane of 1987 down on the Isle of Wight. People further north didn't know what all the fuss was about...

As Leicester is in the middle of the country, we often tend to miss the worst of the weather. We did have a tornado a few years ago but it didn?t hit the part of the village where we live. It happened at lunch time and we only knew about when we saw it on the Midland News.

In 1987 I was living in the New Forest and it was scary watching trees falling in front of you when driving.

Yeah that one has lived long in the memory...amazing scenes the following morning when the eye moved right over us. Everything just went eerily quite with devastation all around and then after a few hours it began again. I always remember having to go up to the roof to asses the damage. The roof which had all Welsh slate was a disaster but looking out over Sandown town, there was hardly a roof untouched. The main high street couldn't be traversed as there was about six inches deep slates everywhere. Quite a few people died that day. We had no choice but to close the hotel five weeks before the season end. As had many others...

Hit Ireland worse of all. The whole country was under a red danger to life alert. Amazed nobody dead yet. Quit substantial damage done so far. Over 600,000 households without electricity, which probably equates to more then 1.3 million people out of five million people here. Broke the longest record for sustained wind gust. Was 179 kph going back to 1945. Reached over 183 kph. Record mean wind speed of over 100 MPH recorded as well.
This was an ordinary little storm front about five days ago out in the Atlantic Ocean....and then it went into mega drive after meeting up with the jet stream...welcome to the new world order provided by Mama nature....And she don't give a flying fcuk which party you voted for....
Quietening down a bit now...I managed to get out for a quick 5k run. Took me a while to get to the park as so many trees down...

I saw the news lunch time Dubbag how Northern Ireland had been hit. Fingers crossed there is no loss of life.
