This is a statement from the club.
Apart from clearing the away end I don?t see the club employing enough security to accomplish this.
It would be nice never to hear the chant again mind!
Rotherham United are asking fans to support our efforts as we employ a proactive approach to ending deeply offensive and upsetting chanting at AESSEAL New York Stadium and on the road, once and for all.
Having consulted the EFL and South Yorkshire Police regarding this chanting which has occurred on occasion at our fixtures and following recent changes to the Law, we have vowed to make it our mission as a club to take action to stamp out what are deeply offensive and upsetting chants specifically referencing the deplorable Child ***ual Exploitation which took place in our town and others around the country.
We strongly believe that the this type of language and chanting has no place in our game, and has the potential to extend and prolong the suffering for the innocent victims and those connected to them.
The club will be taking a strong approach to chants of this nature moving forwards, and instances will be acted upon by our stadium safety and security staff and, where possible, the perpetrators will be ejected from the stadium.
We are asking our fans to support us in achieving this by taking a ?if you hear it, report it? approach to tragedy chanting via the use of our in-stadium, anonymous report hotline.
Any ?live? reports we receive make it considerably easier for our staff to identify the individuals at the centre of any potential offensive chanting and we would encourage our fans to send information regarding where the offending party is seated and any description of their physical appearance.
Fans attending matches at AESSEAL New York Stadium can do this by texting 07507 449121 or by emailing: [email protected]
As custodians and supporters of the club we are proud of our town, and proud of the transformational impact our club has in both positively impacting and uniting our communities.
Our ?Forever Together. Forever Proud.? mantra is one we strongly stand behind.
Together we can end this type of offensive chanting at AESSEAL New York Stadium and show the football world how proud we are of the many amazing people and places that make our corner of South Yorkshire special.
The club will be distributing this information to opposition teams prior to their visits to AESSEAL New York Stadium to make them aware of our policy on this matter.
