    Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia

Apperently we've almost agreed a deal for this bloke.

?25 million - Barca, Real and Arsenal all looking at him as well.

Massively highly rated and had a brilliant season.

I thought we were basically a done deal for Trafford but who really knows.

Lots of reports also saying that he'd come in as starting keeper, short of Pope leaving I also don't see that happening.

I do find it interesting this linking with more keepers though, does suggest there is something out there that says we're looking, rather than a rehash of old news.

Mental that we've already got a 'keeper on our books that we paid ?20 million for that we don't even play.

Aye but we all know reasons why.

Not right and what PSR has driven clubs to.

I feel for him to be honest, he was decent for Benfica and was the Greek No. 1. and now his career is on pause.

I hope we loan him out for his own sake in the summer.

The GK dept is all over the place.

Flacademos and pliers will leave this summer no doubt

I don't know who this latest fella is. He's got a lot of interest from all the usual crony clubs. So I guess he's quality.

I've seen us linked with a Fofan from France too. ?8-10m 2nd best keeper in Ligue 1 apparently.

Dubz probably goes to Celtic, Pope stays, Ruddy stays possibly become a coach, Gillespie goes.

We'd be left with 1 keeper in Pope. We've always had great keepers, one of the only reasons we've not been relegated every season.

This lad or Trafford would be great competition for Pope.

    Bit more on it:

Journalist Angel Garcia seems very sure that Joan Garc?a will be coming to Newcastle United this summer, and he seems to have a very good reputation and track record with his information

He says that we would be willing to pay Joan 's full release clause, set at €25m and that we are the leading candidate to secure the Catalan goalkeeper's services, despite the fact that his name has also been linked to Barcelona, PSG and Arsenal.

Angel Garcia on La Grada Radio:
"The information I'm receiving is quite reliable from the source; if not, I wouldn't be so involved. I don't know if he's signed or pending, but everything is very much on track."

?ngel explained that he's been in contact with people who handle direct information from the Premier League, and "no matter how much there was talk about Arsenal and the Top 6, they told me I wasn't going to sign there as a starter." And he made a clear statement: "You go to Newcastle on an equal footing with other goalkeepers, not like at other Top 6 clubs where you started out as a substitute."
"I asked people close to Joan himself, and they told me that, despite PSG's interference, he was going to go to England. And after consulting them, I agreed with that authority."

?ngel Garc?a also made clear the reason for his caution before launching the exclusive:
"Making mistakes in the lower divisions, where I consider myself a specialist, doesn't have as much impact as talking about the First Division. That's why I went crazy checking things out beforehand."

In short: Joan Garc?a is very close to leaving, and according to ?ngel Garc?a, he would be heading to Newcastle for a significant fee for Espanyol to be a starter here!?

One to keep an eye on for sure ahead of what promises to be a very busy summer! I'll take this rumour still with a pinch of salt for now!

Angel Garcia, is a very credible source.

Far more so that the paid advertisements "My understanding is....." Muppets of Sky Sports.

He's an actual Journalist. With integrity. I used to read his articles in the Spanish press when I was living over there.

It seems very positive. Happy to see we've stolen the march on some very big clubs. Once again, big statement. A bit of a Coup.

Getting in this calibre of player that will go on to play at the absolute pinnacle of the European & International game.

Seem that if Espanyol get relegated his ?25m Release clause halves to ?12.5m.

Pretty sweet deal. Another 'statement of intent' player we really need to sign.

Yeah we're supposed to be in the box seat.

Espanyol stayed up winning their 38th match finising in 14th. So, it's his full 25m release clause. Barca were sniffing to hijack the deal apparently but they're skint so they'll have been hovering for the discount deal.

The recruitment team need to keep their eyes on the prize and get this one done asap
