    O/T Jaws@50

Lots of coverage over here as it's 50 years this month since Jaws was released. Watched it in its entirety again yesterday and it's still as good as ever.

First saw it as a tee.nager on holiday, in the cinema in Great Yarmouth in the summer of 1976. Was disappointed it hadn't entirely followed the book but still a great film.

What are you memories of Jaws or clamoring to see similar summer blockbusters of years gone by?

The epitome of ?they don?t make em like that anymore.?
    Amazing film with no gimmicks.

It always reminds me of what a pretentious prick Mark Kermode is. He insisted that the film leaves out Brody?s wife having an affair from the book because Spielberg had used the narrative of men competing with a wild beast as a metaphor for infidelity.

His co -host Simon mayo asked Spielberg about this theory during an interview. Spielberg said that it was nonsense and he purposely left out the affair because he just wanted to tell a story about a shark killing people and being hunted.

When mayo revealed to Kermode what Spielberg had said. Kermode said he was wrong.

How can he be wrong about his own film?

I?d just moved to the US for the first time and Jaws was the first film I ever watched at a drive-in movie. My flat mate had a pickup truck and he reversed it into the parking spot so we could stretch out on the flatbed. Watching that bloody shark on such a massive screen out in the open was a real treat. The experience also felt amazingly American. Very few drive-ins around these days. Part of a disappearing culture.

Went on the ?Amity? boat trip in Florida early 2000 ?s - was brilliant on this huge lake and the fin appears then eventually this clockwork type great white attacks the boat - half way inside it !!

Some of the people really looked scared to death !!!

It?s a bloody ride I said to one bloke who was in a right mess !!!

If you love the film there, look out for the play “The Shark is Broken”
Funny discussion between the three main actors while they wait for the fake shark is repaired!

I saw it at the Essoldo.

The entire audience shrieked at that moment.

Jaws had massive impact on y oung me. Read couple of cast and crew interviews this week and one was saying how the plan was to have loads of shark visibility until they realised the shark was pretty pants when viewed up close. So Spielberg was forced to imply the shark loads more and that for me is what makes the film so powerful. Also funny to read that when Spielberg heard the first minute of the soundtrack from John Williams, he thought it was a joke!
