    Plans for Oakwell Imrovements.

Barnsley FC submit plans for Oakwell improvements - follows approval for fanpark area

Barnsley FC have submitted plans for improvements to Oakwell Stadium having recently secured approval for a new fanpark area.
The club, supported by HLM Architects, have submitted an application to Barnsley Council for improvements to the East and South stands.

The South Stand is the largest at the ground and features tired seating and hospitality spaces used for conferences and events. The South stand houses the main reception, staff offices and supporters shop as well as seating.
Planning permission is sought for alterations including the installation of cladding infill panels, replacement glazing and a new ticket office and canopy.

A statement submitted as part of the application said: "The proposed external alterations at Barnsley Football Club will help to create a more distinctive main entrance and more usable ticket office for the club and its members.

"The addition of the cladding infill panels in lieu of the existing railings will improve the overall appearance of the stadium and make it more secure."

Earlier this week (1 July 2025), the council's planning regulatory board granted approval for a permanent fanpark area at Oakwell.

The plans cover the installation of shipping container-style units and canopies for the sale of food and drink, together with external seating areas, and a stage with display screens.
It would also feature a 'shoot-out' area for children and families to practice taking shots on goal.

The fanpark would be able to accommodate about 650 people and is intended for use by the club's supporters on match days and for infrequent standalone events. It would replace the existing temporary facilities.

Good stuff a little better than what is going on in S6.

The fanpark is something i'm curious about and how succesful it will be , the winter months are especially problematic for obvious reasons and football is played in the coldest months of the year .

i still believe a social club would be a better idea with an outside facility adjacent to it for the warmer months .

Agree Animal. A Social Club should to be the top of the list really, I reckon it is down to money. Who is paying for this the landlord or the club it does not stipulate.

On a slightly different take it always puzzles me why fanparks are created for supporters to be encouraged to drink alcohol before and after games , bars are open inside the ground but yet you can't have a beer whilst watching the game .

    I don't get it .

I hear what you are saying but crikey 45 minutes is not long to go without a beer, but for me I am pleased they do not drink in the seating area, I get fed up now with the constant disruption when people in front of me are in and out of their seats shuffling along along the rows disrupting your view , heaven forbid what it would be like with fans tripping to the bar and on the return journey cupping 3 or 4 pints and striding over people , its a recipe for ale going everywhere and generally causing havoc , its a no from me .
