Rafferty extends contract for 1 year

Having amassed enough games from this season, Joe Rafferty has invoked his right to extend his contract for a further year.

League 2 might by an easier League to play in and so long as he is used as solely a right back and not a wing back, he should be okay. He always has that mistake in him but, there were far worse players than him this season. At least he ain't new and knows the set up and what will be a demanding season from Clark if he gets the Manager's role.

    Who else is staying?

Good business,is a decent right back, but can`t really play in other positions, which is fair enough, just need another 14 or so now !

Been said Mcwilliams had the same deal but surely thankfully he can't have been fit enough for enough games.

Absolutely furious. Rafferty is a liability as a right back and has been the worst captain, we have had in a long time.

The Mclaren announcement gave me cause for optimism, the Rafferty announcement is a massive step back.

I’m in the in’s camp. Either Rafferty’s game had rapidly deteriorated (age ?) post Christmas or he knew he’d be able to engineer a new season and played accordingly. Not a good scenario..

This just shows what a totally inept COO, board, we have to allow him a contract like that. Raff is a slow old defender who was not the best defender, Douglas was ! By miles. Raffs has been just the same as the other defenders we have all been complaining about and rightly so.
He has kept himself half fit by being AWOL on that wing most of the time. D2 won’t bring him any favours.

One last player left over from terrible signing season still probably going to get paid too much. And hopefully will do the decent thing and find another club.

You're barking up the wrong tree. If SE's masterplan had come to fruition, we'd have been in the Championship this season and Rafferty would have got nowhere near the number of games needed to invoke the extension.

For me, possibly one of our worst players this season - full of mistakes, lacks pace, physicality and lots of other things. Not the best start to our squad building for next season.

The one positive, when he's taking a throw in you know you have time to go to the bog and get a pie/cup of tea and not miss any of the action
