    I remember Airdrieonians (1878) last game was at Ayr, Airdrie fans invaded the pitch and broke the bar which meant the game had to be abandoned, fans fighting with police and arrests then ensued. Out with a bang I suppose.

    I thought they were Rangers-ified, which is like being mummified, but you're actually brought back from the dead when you're a corpse, rather than preserved as one

    Airdrieonians were liquidated, before liquidation became popular.

    Sounds dreadful. I hope none of the Ayr players were hurt.

    Being liquidated back then also meant you were not allowed to create a new club with a similar name nor could you use the old clubs badge. These rules were later modified.

    That is why Airdrie Utd were later allowed to use the name Airdrieonians.

    Far from dreadful, I had a great day. Can't imagine why the Ayr players would be hurt, they were awarded a win and only had to play a few minutes.
