    Doin the hoose up.

Some will find this hard to believe ..But as a Nationalist I'm not against the Monarchy per say (No much time for the hangers on and parasites) But to give them nearly 400M to do up their private palace at a time when austerity is seeing some kids go without food is a disgrace ! They the Royals have done nothing about this work for over 50 years !! despite them being given million and millions of pounds by the taxpayer. They also have a massive personal fortune and could easily pay for this work themselves. Lizzie is takin the pysh !

Typifies the priorities of the current Wastemonster government, no doubt the loyalists on here will see no problem with this.

George III had huge debts, so offered Parliament a deal. In exchange for a fixed salary, the land being maintained by the tax payer and the debts being wiped, Parliament would get the rent from the lands.
Today, that salary is around £40m a year, which sounds like a lot, until you realise the rent is £200m a year, which means Parliament pays in £1 and gets £5 back. Some might say thats a good investment.
The repairing business has to be done, but only about once every 50 years, which means the tax payer is paying 4% of what the royal lands will pay them, which doesnt seem unreasonable.
And this is before you get to tourism (admittedly mostly to the south east/london).
As for why we don't just cut the royals out, they still own the land. Yes, it's held for them by a company (Royal land trust iirc), but they still own it. It is their property. Stop paying them their salary and they can just take back the rent on the lands they legally own.

Probably thee single most ill informed ignorant post ever put up on here, even for stewey the crackpot that takes some doing.

PS, most kids go without food due to selfish junkie basturt parents, not because of the of spending a few quid doing up Britain's biggest tourist attraction.

The British Museum is Britain's biggest tourist attraction & if you describe £400m as a 'few quid' then that must be some phucking pool you have over there

Very good post which shows that the royals do bring in a lot of money for the taxpayer.
I do think that the family should be contributing some of their own money towards the bill though

Its buttons in comparison to the income it brings to the country.

I do have a nice pool though.
