Thank god it's not just me , I asked this on another thread but not had a reply , our goal diff is +1 and the Swiss are +2 , so they have the better record and should finish second ? .

I'm sure the reason is obvious , but I can't see it !

This might help if you can see it, it’s about tie breakers head to head

    Italy beat the Swiss 2.0
    we beat Italy 2.1
we lost to the Swiss 0.1

goal diff between all the teams on 6 points =
    Italy +1
    Eng 0
Swiss -1 therefore Swiss needed a 2 goal margin to qualify giving then a 0 goal diff meaning the head to head comes into play.

Its a stupid way of doing things straight Goal difference should apply in all the games not just the 3 teams on 6 points . Sometimes i wish we would stick to the simplest way of doing things and not try to over complicate matters.

How rediculous , as PMS says what's up with straight forward goal diff and if equal at the end of the group matches, then bring in a head to head system or goals scored etc to decide, but to begin with straight goal diff has got to be simplest.

'kinda makes sense of resolving "tie break" between the three tied teams but .............

................ goal difference should be goal difference IMO

Yes but they like to complicate things, common sense doesn’t apply
