    European league

I read a comment Arsene Wenger made in an interview saying he thinks there will be a league of Europe’s top clubs to play each other week in week out.
    In their own league

Do you think it will ever happen?
What would that mean to the premier league and it’s money?

I don’t know how it would work ...gaining entry to the league or getting relegated from it???

I think it is likelier than 10 years ago.

It would mean a large percentage of the money in prem would migrate to this new league in my opinion.

....thought this would have happened before now TBH. IMO I'd let the money bags teams - top 6 or so go, get them out and level the playing field, make the domestic football more competitive and unpredictable. Rekindle traditional values and cheap tickets. Truth is the
bigwigs need the cannon fodder and traditional rivalries in the domesic leagues to continue - can't see much passion or feeling in a City vs Porto cup tie, can you? I reckon fans would lose interest and it would die on its arse.

Again, I could be talkin shiite and it would turn out to be the greatest show on earth.

    Wadda I know.

you won't get the same number of travelling fans as now.

too tricky, time consuming and expensive

There's talk that they want a bigger share of the tv money.

    Arseholes.

What makes this league so great is the way the smaller teams can beat the bigger teams on any given day in a way that doesn't seem to happen as much in Europe; and, if the top 6 cream off even more money, this will happen less and less as the disparity between the squads of the haves and the have-nots grows ever wider.

There's a large part of me that thinks they can go and fuck off and form their bloody super league. It'll be watched by 'fans' more than supporters, the game will move even further from its roots and I reckon eventually, even the FIFA fanboys will eventually get fed up. Folk who wan t European super-league are probably the same ones who thought the 39th team was a reasonable idea and that fans of Prem teams from, say Holland had a right to see their team play in their country.

'Their' team and a 'right' (both phrases I heard used by those proposing the 39th game)??? Fok off, man-I want nowt to do with people like that.

As for the teams left behind, aye, the Prem would recover and some of the old 'big' teams would maybe come to the fore again (us included) but we'd all know that it wouldn't be the same without a game against Man U or Arsenal, etc.

I think eventually, everyone apart from the players, the agents and the Chief execs would lose.

The way it's going European football could well 'kill the goose that lays the golden eggs'. For a start a move like this would mean the end of the Champions League. IMO this tournament, like the European Cup before it, is special because of the infrequency of the games.

With a European Super league and 'big' games being played every week, Chelsea v Porto will soon bring less interest than Chelsea against Crystal Palace does now. The game will be taken further from the supporters and more towards prawn sandwiches - all for TV money greed.

I can honestly see no more interest in European football (never mind English football) being generated as a result of this change than there is today, and very probably, less.

i dont think its going to happen now

However i was reading they were thinking of doing something similar for international's. Changing the friendlies into leagues with relegation and promotion. Now that is something i can get behind

i cant see it happening, too expensive for the fans etc plus it will de-value the champions league. The exciting part of cup competitions is the fact that a moment of brilliance/error can change the outcome. Another league with lots of games takes the element out of it where its anyones for the taking on the day

The only bonus I can see is if we had another league it would mean Sunderland would be playing in the fourth tier next year 😆😆😆😆
