It's always knock or always praise him.

There seems to be a very limited middle ground with Mitro within the fan base now.

He wasn't anyone's answer when he was here.He was a liability. The strikers we have had over the years he doesn't come close.
Mitrovic is a good stick to beat Rafa with.Same as Mbemba.
We all know Mitro is the best striker we have but as far as being good enough for 20 goals for a premier league team, come on.Will never happen.
As for Mbemba a squad player for me.Lascelles and Lejuene are a better pairing.Thats my opinion and apparently you are allowed that on here.

This. I both like and rate Mitrovic, but I don't think he's capable of scoring 15 goals in the Premier League and put in consistent performances as things stand. And we need a striker who can do just that. He's not bad at all though. If Fulham gets him permanently it would be interesting to see how he fares.

IF Mitro played a full season for a decent team he would score 15 goals without a doubt .
But it's highly unlikely to happen . Be interesting to see if he goes to Fulham what he does . But playing in a team in a relegation battle from day one of course he will struggle to score.

Would you consider our team decent?

I don't dislike Mitro,I think he is the best of all our strikers. The problem I have with all this Mitrovic talk is,when he was here,he wasn't good enough.
Also,go through all the Premier League teams and what teams would he start for.Fulham yes but other than that.Wont be many.Nearly all of them have better strikers. But Joselu should be 1st out of the door and not Mitrovic.

I agree with you, but a lot of strikers would score 10-15 goals for decent teams. We need to spend a large chunk of our money on a striker who can do more than Mitrovic can, otherwise we will be in another relegation struggle again. We might be anyway, but an autonomous striker who can create chances on his own would help us greatly.

It's hard to feed a striker , no matter how good , when you are struggling in most games and defending most of the time .
Arsensal had numerous top strikers but still struggled , Chelsea the same ... Buying a £30m striker is pointless for Newcastle the rest of the team isn't good enough .

I think we've been, especially in the last part of the season, creating enough chances for a good striker to capitalize on. Gayle had some sitters, but also often he was caught in the wrong positions so that a potential chance went to waste. It's not all Gayle's fault, but there's no doubt that a more skilled striker could score a lot more goals in this team than Gayle, Joselu and Mitrovic all put together.
