    O/T Fecking Wimbledon

Each to their own but how does our favourite public broadcaster, the BBC justify the blanket coverage they give this event on terrestrial television.

At the moment I’m typing this they’ve got the same match on both BBC 1 and BBC 2. Two epic players? No, Sousa v Evans.

Prime time television watched by many that can’t afford Sky or Netflix etc as alternatives.

It's so desperate that they cheer a smackhead that was banned for taking drugs.

It's the biggest tennis tournament in the world and a bit of an english institution Grist .

To be honest I find it comforting that this sporting event is still available on terrestrial tv in this day and age .

The day live coverage of our Open Golf Championship left the beeb for Sky was a very sad day .

That is probably true, but my point is why have it on both channels. Beeb 1 and 2 ?

In this case the same game whilst cancelling other scheduled programs to do it?

It might be the flagship sport of the middle classes but there are probably more licence fee payers that don’t give a toss about it, have never played tennis nor watched a match live.

Hardly a participation sport in Rotherham is it?

The beeb could use their coverage more effectively I agree because as you say Tennis isn't everyone's cup of char , why they don't use beeb 4 through the day and the red button more is a bit bewildering .

It's not as middle class as you think , I've been twice with my partner who is a huge tennis fan and you will find a huge cross section of society camping out in Wimbledon Park as we did .

It's great craic , BBQ's , booze flowing and folk roughing it a bit to get tickets for the show courts .

I can’t remember the last time I saw anybody actually playing the game.

But because you don't play the game doesn't mean you can't enjoy the sport .

My partners never owned a tennis racket in her life but she watches tennis enthusiastically .

I like tennis but I'm not as enthusiastic about it as she is but I have to say watching these athletes yards away is something else .

TV doesn't do it justice , they are phenomenal .

I’m sure that there are many people that enjoy the sport and probably an equal, maybe bigger number that don’t.

You’re probably also right that tv doesn’t do the athletes justice.

Also I’m not saying it shouldn’t be on terrestrial tv but the BBC blanket coverage is way over the top.
