    Remember this?

Just thought I'd pull up a random post from yesteryear and came across this one. Forgot all about Wood being at Chesterfield.....seems an age ago and he has done so much for the club since then. Top man is Richard Mark Wood.

Rotherham recall Richard Wood from Chesterfield
Rotherham United have recalled former Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Wood from his loan spell at Chesterfield.

It is not known if he will be in the Millers squad tonight for the match at Fulham.

The Championship side said they were planning to bring Wood back to the New York Stadium, but a viral illness had hastened the process.

Millers boss Neil Redfearn said: “Harry Toffolo has a virus so we have recalled Richard because we needed the extra body, but we wanted to bring Richard back anyway.

“He has been out and got some games and it will be good for me now to have a look at him. He is an experienced defender and he gives us good competition and cover. He is somebody that I haven’t really had chance to have a good look at, so it will be good for me to see him at close quarters.”

He was and has done nothing since leaving us......don't let IBS get wind of this though as I think it was him, who said Redfearn had not been given enough time...

    compare...Evans or Redfearn?

Amazing isn't it how we seem to win a lot of games when Woodiola is in the first XI.

    Spooky coincidence.

    He organises the defence.

    Goalkeeper's job really though.

Only to a point. Wood has good experience as to how high or low the back 4 needs to be. He positions himself correctly and the others line up with him.

A decent goalie will organise things as well, like making the defenders aware of the threat from the opposition players, and making sure they are doing their marking properly,I used to any way !

One things for sure, he will leave a large void when he retires from the team. Whoever takes his place will have big boots to fill.

He will always be remembered for his master heroics at Wembley that took us back up to the Championship. It may well have been a team effort but it will always be the 'Richard Wood is Magic' final!

Maybe, just maybe he is the defensive coach on the pitch that some, and one in particular have been calling for ad nauseum. But then, it's not the same as having a "proper defensive coach" sitting in the dugout is it.

It will be if when he retires he's offered the role full time.
