We lost a game of football we should have won.
Before their one effort on goal we could have been 2 up and on another day we would have been.
Only their guy stood in no mans land not marking anyone cleared Woottons header and 9 times out of 10 the keeper doesn’t save the Dennis effort or at least parry’s it out to another player.

I'd like to give a special mention to the big lad up front they had, Tom Denton, who according to one fans terrible attempt at a chant is a "pedo"... Lovely, keep it classy Notts, (came from the same area of the away fans as the rousing rendition of "boring boring Notts fans" that unbelievably didn't get everyone going...) Not sure if that was based on his own information or what but anyway... Was a huge improvement on the Barnet game I saw.But Ardley's tippy tappy possession football is not for the Conference. we made hard work of the game by making passes at the back & midfield that ended up putting pressure on players. We have pace up front & need to get the ball out from the back quicker,be a bit more direct.

Ardley is slowly getting us there but that's the trouble - SLOWLY. Two steps forward, one step back. You're right KC, a decent coach would make this team feared and always on the front foot but opposition coaches know too well how fragile we can be.

Agreed. I've only seen the two televised games so far this season, and while last night was rubbish, it was better than the performance against Barnet.
First half we looked OK. We controlled possession and appeared to be waiting patiently for an opening. That style of play is fine when it's 0-0, and I like the idea of controlling an away game, as it gets the home fans on their players' backs. Then Chesterfield scored with their only shot on target, and we continued to follow the patient possession-based approach, but now with Chessy defending even deeper. Plan A wasn't working. The problem is, Ardley didn't seem to have a plan B.
Bizarrely, our approach play became even more negative as the game went on. Just when we needed to put their defence under pressure, we wasted time passing it around the back four. Our approach was summed up when we got a free kick in their half with a few minutes to go, and instead of launching it into the box, it ended up back with the keeper. It was like we were defending a 0-1 lead, not chasing the game.
Ardley needs to be more willing to change the plan if it isn't working. That means more forward passes, more runs into the channel, our full backs being more adventurous, and one of our centre mids playing further up the pitch. We basically played with six outfield players behind the ball yesterday.
On another day, Dennis would have scored his chance and we'd have won the game easily. Chesterfield didn't look like they had another gear to go into. They were honestly one of the worst teams I've seen us play against. On that point, was it me or did the commentary team seem to be biased in favour of Chesterfield? One of them was praising their commitment and organisation. To me they just looked awful and only came away with points because we were ****e in the final third. If that's the level of opposition in this league, there can be no excuses for not mounting a promotion push this season.
Big result needed on Tuesday.

As disappointing as yesterday’s result was it is worth noting that despite the dodgy start to this season Notts currently have the best defence in the league based on goals conceded. On goals scored we are 8th best which depicts our league position.
I wasn’t able to watch the game yesterday as travelling back from holiday but reading comments on here it looks like we were lacking in the final third. Whether that is down to poor finishing or a lack of creativity I have no idea.
Ive just checked and we had 15 attempts on goal, 6 on target compared to 5 faced from Chesterfield, 3 of which were on target. We had more dangerous attacks and twice as many corners which again would indicate an inability to convert scoring opportunities.
Like I said I wasn’t there so can’t comment on performance but the stats would suggest we should have won comfortably.

We gifted them the goal, to be marking a man, then back off the way Notts did was shocking. Teams will love to play Notts if that is how Ardley wants to play out from the back,no pressure on the opposition just pressure on Notts for no reason
Ardley isn't Pep & he doesn't have the players either like Pep either. There were times the centre halfs had acres of space in front to go forward, but the ball went side ways then backwards. We won't get out this league playing that way.
