But mostly the Butcher and Harkes bit.
The two of them worked well on Saturday. Powers' controlling of the midfield allowed Harkes to express himself more. One of the best games I've seen Harkes play for a long time. As always, partnerships need time to form & gel and these two might just be clicking at the right time if Butcher is out for any length. Our issues were in other areas of the park on Sat, certainly not central midfield, so the two of them at worthy of another go this weekend if need be.

Powers was better on Saturday but imho wasn’t brilliant. And his limitations were particularly exposed at Dunfermline where his need to have what feels like about twenty minutes on the ball before passing was ruthlessly exposed by the likes of Paul Paton (Paton FFS!) who was all over him like a rash and gave him no time whatsoever.

Instead of myself (and many others it has to be said) handing out criticisms, I have yet to have somebody actually concisely build a positive case for what he brings to the team and how he has improved us in the middle of the park since he started. Maybe I am missing something really obvious here but our record since he started is all there to see and indeed the one win we’ve had recently led directly from his substitution changing the game in our favour.

Hey Butch, you've been our best and most important player by far along with Shankland this season and we are at our best with you in the team and we haven't won again since you got injured but Xavi Powers (if you know you know) had a half decent game for once, so your benched.

    ;p

That'll be the Paul Paton that Butcher couldn't get in the team for when he was 1st at Utd.

Let's be honest here, Powers has came into a team where so many other player's form has dipped and injuries have stifled continuity too.

I like Powers. A far far better footballer than Butcher.

Yes injuries have played a role but Powers style has slowed us down considerably imho.

Listen, it’s obvious you like Powers. In contrast, it’s clearly obvious I haven’t exactly warmed to him for all the reasons I have listed in many posts. I suspect things should be left at that.

Fair enough it's all about opinions but in my time posting on here I'd say yourself and Shedka in my experience used to give players a lot more time. Powers seems to be an exception to the rule for some reason and is getting blamed in large for this recent slump.

I feel very very sorry for Powers he has joined a team who were a million points ahead but have collectively jumped aff a cliff at a crucial time of the season.
