Whilst I totally agree the current government is not likely to be great come the next election, you have to remember that Blair beat a party split down the middle over Europe. Which is the current position Labour are still in.

To pick up your other posts Brexit (and the election) point. I would say whilst Brexit was hugely influential, the failure was due to a lack of clarity on one side, and thus division. That has to be addressed.

It certainly was a 'Brexit' election for many voters, Eli. Having said that, no one forced the Labour Party to adopt the ludicrous position that they did. Why didn't they simply say, 'We'll honour the result but leave with a deal that keeps us as close to the EU as poss'. Once they decided that any deal would be subject to a 2nd ref, they alienated 40% of their core vote, there was absolutely no need for them to do that or is just another example of Corbyn's pish poor leadership that he allowed himself to be pushed into that position? If the Labour Party had voted May's deal thru, which actually contained pretty much everything they said they wanted, rather than vote against it simply playing silly political games the following election result may well have been very different or may not actually have even happened yet.

Good to see, Gumpster, that you're not entirely lost to the left.
Never was a quote more apposite than 'The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there' is to Labour at this time.

Will he be ringing D-Ream for an election anthem? I'm sure Professor Cox will be on board.

Try ringing Vince Clarke and borrow 'Ship Of Fools'.
Another one who thinks all Labour politicians should be without wealth. How did you cope with Wedgwood Benn?

Let's face it, yoof, if the appointment met with your approval I would be very worried.

Another socialist salesman trying to sell an idea. Its so tedious. Starmer does seem to be mentally healthier than Corbyn and Abbott etc, who did seem disconnected from reality. Having said that, Marxism is disconnected from reality, it always has been. People will always want to better themselves.

And if they do, not get punished for it. Labour are finished. A new party needs to evolve. A democratic party able to address reality not nonsense from 1913. A tony Blair type party, but without Blair.

I'd say it was a ludicrous approach rather than ludicrous position, because Labour never had a position where Brexit was concerned. They seemed to wait to see what might be popular, and voters quite rightly got sick of their dithering.

Tony Benn was one of the biggest Eurosceptics ever to walk the British political stage, so perhaps the analogy has more than a touch of irony

Sorry, what is the ‘progress’ you say corbyn made?
